Needle felting is the process of sculpting wool roving using very sharp barbed needles. Piercing the wool using repeated strokes causes the wool fibers to compress, allowing it to be shaped. Most of Heather's needle felted wool sculptures start with a wire armature over which wool and other natural fibers are applied. She does not use styrofoam cores, poly fillers, polymers, or air brushed paint. Each piece takes many hours to complete and is truly a labor of love. Her work is inspired by New England wildlife and farm animals.
