This Carolina wren is comfortably perched amongst English ivy.
The perch is a charming. old architectural spindle covered with layers of weathered, chipped paint found in a local antiques shop. The life-size needle felted wren is built over a wire armature and has a solid wool core. The top coat, or feathers, are a custom blend of wool fibers—even the eyes and beak are wool. A small amount of feather detail was sewn with embroidery floss. The ivy leaves are also needle felted with stems and a vine that are wire wrapped with wool. The tiny ladybug has wire legs and is made of wool and silk. The entire piece is 9 inches tall. Signed.
